Arch City Columbus, Ohio Shirt (Discontinued)
-
In 1888, the Grand Army of the Republic decided to host it's 22nd annual Encampment in Columbus, Ohio. More than 250,000 people visited the city for ten days in September. Huge tents were put up downtown to hold the visitors and wooden arches lit by gaslight were built to light the streets. More than 90,000 veterans marched down High Street under the arches in the largest parade of Union soldiers since the end of the Civil War. The arches were torn down in 1916 but in 2002 17 steel arches were reinstalled on High Street reminding the city of it's history as the Arch City.
