As we approach the 48th Annual Historic Old West End Festival, we feel a great deal of pride in our neighbors just a few blocks to our west. The Old West End is home to many of our community leaders, friends, and—if we’re being honest—our favorite dogs.
The neighborhood, first platted in 1866, had its start when some of Toledo's wealthiest residents moved outward from downtown and established their new homes in “The Woods.” The homes built featured Victorian, Edwardian, Arts and Crafts homes, and more, creating one of the largest showcases of architecture popular in the late 1800s and early 1900s in America.
In 2019, this neighborhood is home to twenty-five city blocks of not just incredibly impressive architecture, but an equally delightful community rich in culture, diversity and pride. The neighborhood features Toledo attractions such as The Toledo Museum of Art, The Libbey House, Collingwood Arts Center, and Rosary Cathedral. The neighborhood also houses staples of the community like The Arts Commission, Black Kite Coffee, Old West End Antiques, and more.
Each year, the neighborhood hosts a festival on the first weekend of June to bring together neighbors, both within the neighborhood, across the city, and beyond. The festival is something that Old West Enders look forward to each year, prepping their homes, yards, and porches for visitors and turning the neighborhood into a weekend-long oasis. Fest includes the King Wamba Parade, House Tours, the Beer Garden at the Arboretum, Music and Entertainment (there is always a porch show taking place to stumble upon), the Art Fair, Marketplace, Yard Sales, and so much more.
Jupmode looks forward to taking part in this celebration each year, with 2019 being our 9th year of participation. You can find us in the Marketplace (on the corner of Woodruff and Parkwood) on Saturday & Sunday from 10am-5pm representing the OWE with our Fest exclusives, including Old West Ender shirts, stickers, dog bandanas, flags, and more. Our shop will also be open on Adams Street, just two blocks east of the Marketplace, from 10am-4pm on Saturday.
