It might be difficult to imagine that a school in the middle of corn fields was originally named Bowling Green Normal College. But it was. Seriously.

You might still be a "Normal" today, if it weren't for "Normal College" Alumni Ivan “Doc” Lake, who became curiously enchanted by the falcon in 1927--and who wouldn't? A fierce fighting bird with speed and courage, the falcon was coined as the school's mascot and nickname, which is very fortunate for BGSU's dignity as an educational and athletic institution. And for us, too, because we get to make this sweet t-shirt now (and there's nothing normal about it).
